THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The ‘Vayusena Dakshin Parikrama,’ an IAF eight-motorcycle expedition traversing seven states, left the capital city on Tuesday morning. The expedition, led by Group Captain I V R Rao to mark the golden jubilee of No 2 Air Force Selection Board located at Mysore, has covered 4,500 km so far and is on the last leg of the expedition. The expedition was flagged off from Mysore on September 21 by Air Marshal S P Singh, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Air Command. The expedition team arrived in the capital city on Monday. On Tuesday morning, it was flagged off from the Shangumugham Air Force Station by Air Vice Marshal KP Nair, SOA, HQ SAC. A group of 15 air warriors from the unit has been painstakingly selected and trained for this arduous expedition covering almost 5,000 km in about a fortnight. The expedition is aimed at serving a two-fold objective - to honour the Selection Board and its achievements over the last five decades and to enhance awareness amongst the youth of the country about the profession of arms, a Defence spokesperson said.
