Humour widens a film's reach: 'Jolly LLB' director

Mumbai: Director Subhash Kapoor, whose new film 'Jolly L.L.B.' is a satire on the country's judiciary system, says humour makes it easier for a message-based movie to reach a wide audience.

The director, who had earlier helmed the satire 'Phas Gaye Re Obama', narrated an incident to prove his point.

"When you go to courts, there are about three-and-half crore cases pending in India. There are people in jail since 15 years and their hearing has not yet started. I met a guy at the Tis Hazari courts in Delhi. For his property, his family has declared him dead on papers, and he has been fighting a case since six years to prove that he is not dead, he is alive," Subhash said here Tuesday at the first look launch of 'Jolly L.L.B.'.

"Now, how do I deal with a situation like that? To me, it is funny, ironical. So I tried to deal with it with a certain amount of humour, satire and I don't think the message gets diluted in that way. It increases the reach, it is much easier for people to see it," he added.

'Jolly L.L.B.' stars Arshad Warsi in the title role. Boman Irani and Amrita Rao have key roles in the movie.
