JAIPUR: Denied admission to a government hospital, a woman delivered a baby boy in a truck cabin at Kalinga Nagar in Jajpur district. The incident took place late on Thursday outside the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Danagadi.Sources said Bhanumati Mahanta (21) of Sainkula village in Danagadi block under Tomka police limits started having labour pains late in the night. As she was registered under the Janani Suraksha Yojana, her family tried to contact Janani Surakhya vehicle driver but in vain.Later, she was taken to the Government hospital in a truck where the staff refused to admit her saying the doctor would come only the next morning. They instead advised them to take her to area hospital at Jajpur Road. “Finding a woman attendant at the hospital, we rushed to the doctor’s quarters only to be turned back. My wife delivered the baby in the truck at around 2 am,” said Bhanumati’s husband Ajit Kumar Mahanta.The doctor completed the post-delivery procedures on Friday and discharged the mother and baby, he said adding that his wife and child had to spend the night in the truck braving severe cold.Pleading ignorance about the incident, Jajpur CDMO Deepak Prusty said he will order an inquiry and take action accordingly.
