CHENNAI: At a Lok Adalat conducted by the TN State Legal Services Authority (TNSLSA), a settlement between the legal heirs of a deceased sailor and a ship owner was reached and a cheque for Rs 28,73,400 given to them on Friday.K Ramachandran died on November 14, 2009 while service with Norwegian Cruise Line in Miami. His father N Kalusingam applied to the TNSLSA for securing compensation. The Authority took up the matter with the Miami Shipping Company, which in turn arranged to settle the claim through James Mackintosh & Company Private Ltd. Both the claimants and company representative appeared before the Authority on Friday and the latter handed over a cheque for Rs 28.73 lakh to the claimants towards full and final settlement of the compensation claim.
