THRISSUR: Amidst chants and scents of sandalwood incense sticks, flowers and camphor, the Ekadasi celebrations came to an end at the Sree Krishna Temple on Tuesday.Thousands of devotees thronged the abode of Lord Krishna to have a darshan of their beloved deity. The temple was flooded with devotees from Monday evening, making it a bit tough for the security personnel to control the crowd.Gajarathnam Padmanabhan, along with Indrasen and Sreedharan, carried the golden idol inside the temple during the Kazhcha Siveli. Special arrangements were made for darshan and the Prasadam Oottu. Because of 15 special poojas that were held from 8.30 am till 1 pm, devotees had to wait for hours in queue to get a darshan. The Udaya-Asthamana Pooja, a rite from dawn to dusk, made the ceremony even more sacred, and with the Kazhcha Siveli that began at 7 in the morning after the Ushapooja, long lines formed at two sides of the railings for men and women to witness the idol being paraded out for darshan.By 9 am the procession inside the temple concluded and the Purathezhunnallippu, the procession towards the nearby Parthasarathy temple, took off with tusker Padmanabhan in the lead. After performing the rituals there, the parade returned by 12 noon. The Ekadasi Oottu, the ritual feast with wheat meal and Payasam, had begun by then at the oottupura and the special makeshift hall. In the afternoon, a normal Kazhcha Siveli and towards twilight, another procession chanting the mantra ‘Narayanaya Nama’ proceeded to the Partha Sarathy Temple. A chariot parade had met the procession from the temple, together returning to the Guruvayur main shrine. The Vilakkezhunnellippu began after 10 pm which made the temple glow with a divine halo, lent by ghee lamps.
