New Delhi: The recently-split Salman Rushdie made a comeback of sorts when he made a surprise entry at a Aurus Club in Juhu on Thursday night to take part in a new AIDS initiative.
Accompanied by Parmeshwar Godrej, Rushdie lived up to his image of being a ladies man after he sparked off gossip when he was spotted deep in conversation with Bollywood starlet Riya Sen.
Rushdie, who seemed completely fascinated by Riya and the little backless number she was sporting, did not waste much time in conversation with other celebrities present at the event — Sohail Khan, Kunal Kapoor, Zayed Khan and industrialist Gautam Singhania to mention a few.
The two got chatting after Parmeshwar Godrej introduced them.
The four time-married author has a history of being able to charm women when he wants.
Some time ago, his son Zafar Rushdie had been quoted as saying that he sticks close to his famous father at parties as "all beautiful women want to talk to dad".
Twenty-six year old Zafar had then said: "Most people who go to a party with their parents try to run away from them. Not me. If I want to meet girls, I just stand near him. All the beautiful women want to talk to dad, so I stand close and bask in the sunlight. Beauty loves brains."
The author has just split with his fourth wife, model Padma Lakshmi. Before that he was married to literary agent Clarissa Luard, lived in with writer Robyn Davidson before marrying yet another writer, Marianne Wiggins.
He is currently in Mumbai to promote his new AIDS awareness campaign and is awaiting the release of his new novel, The Enchantress of Florence.
