KOCHI: The Grameena Museum project envisaged for rural schools to inculcate a sense of history and impart knowledge by the district panchayat is yet to take off.Presented in the district panchayat budget, the authorities have planned to implement the project in association with the National Museum Institute in Delhi.“We plan to set up a mini replica of the National Museum in one or two schools where it will be easy for students from all schools to visit.This is part of a Central scheme for each district and we thought of setting up the museum in vantage points, one in SRV GHSS in Ernakulam and another in Muvattupuzha GHSS.We have done all the paper work and sent the communication to the Centre and the Director of the National Museum Institute and are waiting for sanction and funds,” said president, District Panchayat, Eldhose Kunnappilly.“The Centre will fund the project, `1 crore has been allotted to it,” he said.When asked about the other projects earmarked for education in the budget, he said that they have `12.5 crore with the HUDCO and with that they intend to take a loan of `100 crore which will be utilised for renovating building, constructing new blocks and building labs in high schools, higher secondary and technical schools.“As this will be allotted to the block and district panchayats, we’re waiting for nod.This will be taken up at the next panchayat council.The toilets are already under construction,” he said.
