New Delhi: Celebrating the 93rd birthday of the British biophysicist and X-ray crystallographer Rosalind Franklin, Google has posted a doodle on it homepage. She is believed to have made critical contributions to the understanding of the molecular structures of DNA, RNA, viruses, coal, and graphite.
Born on 25 July 1920, Rosalind Franklin is best known for her work on the X-ray diffraction images of DNA which in turn led to the discovery of the DNA double helix.
The second 'O' in the doodle houses an image of Rosalind Franklin, while the letter 'L' has been replaced with the DNA double helix.
She was from an affluent British Jewish family. Rosalind Franklin died in 1958 of ovarian cancer. She was 37.
