Bahraich: Uttar Pradesh police have rescued a young girl, who behaves and makes animal-like sounds, from the forest in Bahraich district.

The age of the girl could not be verified but, according to reports, she is between eight and 10 years old.

The girl is being referred to as 'Mowgli girl' after Rudyard Kipling's famous children series 'The jungle book' where a boy was raised by wild animals.

The police found the girl from Motipur forest range near Bahraich's Katarniyaghat Wildlife Sanctuary during the routine patrol on Jan 25 this year, reported IANS.

The police officer Suresh Yadav was chased by monkeys when he tried to rescue the girl. The girl also resisted rescue attempts and made shrieking sounds like monkeys.

Apparently, she also did not understand human language when an attempt was made to talk to her.

According to police, the girl was admitted to a district hospital after being rescued from among a group of monkeys.

The girl had no clothes on her body when she was rescued by police, said the report.

The doctors are now treating the girl, who had various bruises on her body.

Motipur police station in-charge Ram Avtar has said they haven't filed any case in this regard.

Police also said that are unable to find the whereabouts of her family. The police is still clueless as to how the girl ended up in the dense jungle and managed to live there for so long.

According to hospital staff, there is improvement in the girl's behaviour as she has started eating food with her hands.
