New Delhi: Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja is making a comeback on silver screen with a horror thriller film 'Ghost'. Being released on January 13, 2012, Shiney will be seen romancing Sayali Bhagat in the film. Shiney has high hopes with 'Ghost'. If the film hits a jackpot at the box office, it will be a great push to his career. Shiney spills the beans about his film and his personal life in an interview with IBN Live.
Q: Tell us something about your latest film Ghost.
A: It is a horror film with an aspect of mystery. Audience will keep wondering till the end that will happen next. However, at heart Ghost is a love story, which is the soul of the film. In past, I have done another thriller film Bhool Bhulaiyaa, but Ghost is very different from it and I am looking forward to its release.
Q: Horror films are not too common in Bollywood. Why did you choose Ghost as your comeback film? Are you scared of being typecast?
A: When I look at a script, I don't go by its genre. It is the story line that matters to me. Gangster was offered to me as an action thriller, but I saw a beautiful love story in it. For me, Bhool Bhulaiyaa was also a love story of Siddharth and Avni and rest was just a part of their story. Similarly, it was the script that attracted me to do 'Ghost' and not the genre of the film.
Q: Will we ever see you in a typical masala Bollywood love story sometime soon?
A: Why not, if a good script comes my way, I will surely take it up. Infact, my next film Har Pall is a love story. Preity Zinta has been cast opposite me in the film. It is a story of two neighbors and how they fall in love with each other.
Q: We have been hearing about Har Pall from long. When is the film finally releasing?
A: We have completed the shoot of the film. Now, Har Pall will hit the screens this summer.
Q: How did you get the offer to do Ghost?
A: Director of the film, Puja Jatinder Bedi is my friend's sister. When I was in Delhi, I got a call from my friend who's is in the US now. Soon after, Puja came to meet me in Delhi with the script. I was really impressed with the story and immediately said yes.
Q: You are making a comeback in Bollywood almost after three years, aren't you feeling jittery?
A: I don't think about things which are not under my control. As an actor, all you can do is between an action and a cut. Success and failure depends on your fate and audience, so I don’t think about it much.
Q: Lately, there were reports about Sayali Bhagat being uncomfortable shooting with you. Has the matter been sorted out now?
A: At times you do become a soft target and people talk and write about you without any confirmations. Thankfully, the media scenario is gradually changing now and people give more importance to credibility rather than sensationalism.
Q: You have been through tough time in past. Generally, people break down in such situations and go into depression. However, you are handling it well and making a comeback to films. What has been your strength?
A: I am blessed with a wonderful family. My wife has been really supportive throughout my life. Our chemistry and understanding is matchless. My parents and my daughter inspire me to live and be happy. My daughter is a very sensitive soul, though she is just four, but we are deeply connected to each other. Then it's the people I work with who motivate me. I am really grateful to my director Puja and producer Bharat Shah for believing in me.
Q: How's the industry treating you?
A: They are treating me the same way as they used to. It's good to know that there are people who believe you.
Q: Now, what are your expectations with Ghost?
A: Obviously every actor hopes for a successful film and so do I. Huge amount of hard work goes into a film. And audiences can decide its fate in just couple of hours. So I hope my fans like Ghost and appreciate our hard work.
Q: Do you think all your hard work has been overshadowed by this one incident?
A: My relationship with my fans has become better. When a star goes through a rough patch, people start relating to him more. It's not only about film stars, even cricketers get into controversies, but you should know how to deal with the situation. As long as you are good at your job, nothing else matters.
Q: What are your future projects?
A: Apart from Har Pall, I am doing a film with Soha Ali Khan. The film is titled Ek Accident and is directed by Pritish Nandy. It will be released this year. I am also doing Hitman with Sudhir Mishra.
Q: After so many years in the industry, which is your favorite big screen performance?
A: I enjoyed playing Vikram in Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi the most.
