Ghanaian Caught With Cocaine Worth Rs 15 Lakh at Mumbai Airport

Mumbai: Sub-Inspector Kapil Dev grew suspicious when a well-dressed Ghanaian national walked towards the metal detector for security check. It was the "shabby belt" that he was wearing that made the CISF personnel suspicious.

It soon turned out that the man, Akufo Nana, was smuggling cocaine worth Rs 15 lakh concealed in his waist belt.

Nana was travelling to Kolkata by Indigo flight No 6E-319 from Mumbai. According CISF officials, there was a zip in his belt where the cocaine was hidden in five small packets.

The powder was checked with the help of the ETD machine which confirmed that it contained 23% cocaine. A case has been registered under Sections 8(C) and 21(B) of the NDPS act.

A top CISF official told CNN-News18, "This was a good detection by the officer concerned. The belt actually did it for the passenger. It wasn't the machine which detected but the detection was purely on the basis of the officers experience and presence of mind."

CISF officials immediately informed the airport police about the detection. Since the passenger wasn't able to give a satisfactory reply to the officials about the cocaine, the matter was referred to the local police.

He told the police that he received this consignment from Delhi and was going to hand it over to someone in Kolkata.
