Berlin: World Cup hosts Germany want to host the 2011 women's World Cup, Germany football federation (DFB) co-president Theo Zwanziger confirmed on Thursday.

"We're going to bid for the 2011 women's World Cup. We should present a dossier based on six to eight stadia," said Zwanziger.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced last November that her government would back such a project.

The 2007 World Cup will be held in China where Germany are favourites to defend the title they won in 2003.

Germany won their sixth European women's title, and fourth consecutive, in 2005 and Potsdam are the holders of the women's UEFA Cup.
