Ganguly, Warne fined; lose 10 pc of match fees
Both players have been issued a reprimand for their on-field conduct.

New Delhi: Kolkata Knight Riders skipper, Sourav Ganguly and captain of the Rajasthan Royals, Shane Warne, have been reprimanded and fined 10 per cent of their match fees by match Referee Farookh Engineer.

Both the players were fined for their on-field behaviour and for criticising each other during — and after — the match between their teams at Jaipur on Thursday.

The IPL administrators also suspended umpire, G A Pratapkumar for one match for going to the third umpire on Ganguly's insistence after the Kolkata skipper had insisted that South African skipper Graeme Smith — fielding for the Jaipur team — had not taken a catch cleanly.

The referral to the third umpire went in Ganguly's favour, but it did not go down well either with Japiur skipper Shane Warne, or Smith.

Warne fired a broadside at Ganguly in the post-match press conference, while Ganguly also shot back at the Australian.

The duo follow Harbhajan Singh into the IPL bad boys list, after the stand-in Mumbai Indians skipper was banned for 11 IPL games and docked his entire fee of Rs 3 crore after he slapped S Sreesanth after the match with Kings XI Punjab.

Warne was found guilty of violating Section 1.7 of the ICC’s Code of Conduct, which deals with ‘public criticism of, or inappropriate comment on a match-related incident or official.’ It constitutes a Level I offence.

The former Australian leg-spin legend had publicly criticised Ganguly for an on-field incident.

Reacting to the fine and reprimand Knight Riders Marketing Head Joy Bhattacharya said, "We didn't expect Sourav to be fined but we will abide by whatever IPL says. It happened at the heat of the moment. We don’t want to be distracted by what happened and would prefer to concentrate on the game."

The move by Engineer came even as the Rajasthan Royals decided not to file a complaint against Ganguly. There was speculation after Warne's tirade on Thursday that the Jaipur team will go to the match referee.

"The Rajasthan Royals just want to say that the team supports the coach and the captain on the issue that the game should have been played and should be played in the spirit of the game. The second thing is whatever happened on the ground, whether the team came late to the ground or was delayed or about the particular catch which was very controversial, the match referee a representative of the IPL was there and they have to decide what action to take," Rajasthan Royals' media manager Anant Vyas said.
