Banjul: Gambia Tourism Board have launched a new Ebola-free campaign to help foreign tourists to have first-hand information about the country's public health situation.
The sector will be organising a series of sport activities, among those beach football events, to send a clear message to the world that the West African country is free of Ebola.
The programme aims to encourage tourists who were discouraged and have cancelled their flights to the country due to Ebola outbreak in West Africa to come back for vacation, officials told Xinhua on Tuesday.
Over the weekend, the first leg of the campaign on football tournament was launched by a retired Dutch national named "Papa Holland," who is in his seventh-year holiday in Gambia.
"The two-week tournament was meant to send out clear message to the world that the Gambia is not affected by the terrifying Ebola virus which has cost the lives of thousands of people in affected nations within the continent such as Guinea Conakry, Sierra Leone and Liberia", the officials noted.
