New Delhi: Fresh trouble has gripped Nandigram again. Clashes took place between CPI-M and land eviction resistance committee supporters.

One constable has been reportedly injured in the violence. There has also been firing and use of crude bombs between the two groups.

In East Midnapore district a police inspector sustained bullet injuries during a barrage of firing from Sonachura, one of the troubled spots in the area.

The IGP (law and order) Raj Kanojia said here that the police inspector was critically injured when a bullet hit him on his head while he was on duty near Bhangabera, close to Sonachura.

Kanojia said that the injured inspector, identified as Prabhat Sarkar, was being shifted to state-run SSKM hospital for immediate medical attention. "His condition is critical," Kanojia said.

He blamed the Bhumi Ucched Pratirodh Committee, of which Trinamool Congress is one of the components, for indulging in violence and opening fire at the police.

Reinforcements were being rushed to the spot. Senior police officers were camping at the site.
