Making the city free of corneal blindness is something Dr Mohan Rajan is keen on achieving. At the launch of the Rotary Gift of Sight Project (ROGOS) recently, Dr Rajan, Chairman of Rajan Eye Clinic, announced that they would do 1,000 free corneal transplants for children aged below 15 in the next year. The ROGOS project is also aimed at reducing cataracts by using IOL lenses in free surgeries, awareness camps on refractive errors and glaucoma reduction. All of these targets will be achieved separately through separate projects under the same ROGOS banner. Dr Rajan said that he was indeed indebted to all the help and assistance that he has received from the Rotary clubs in the district.
An equal amount of focus will also be made to help the elderly with cataract and vision issues, he added.
The project was inaugurated by Past President of Rotary international Wilf Wilkinson.
He said, “Making small pockets of people happy by giving them sight will lead to a happier country.”
He commended Dr Rajan’s vision in having set up such an instrumental network to provide free, quality eyecare for a country that really needs it, day after day.
