HYDERABAD: The Cyber Crime wing of the Crime Investigation Department have arrested four Nigerians including two women in Delhi who had duped a woman teacher of Rs. 45 lakh by luring her with the promise of lottery money.Police recovered three computers, 19 mobiles phones, 23 SIM cards, pen drives, data cards from the accused. The four accused are Rita Esumel (26), Innocent Obozele (33), Stephen Elabor (25) and Victoria Innocent (28).S V Ramanamurthy, additional director general of police (CID) said that on May 15, the complainant, a teacher, received a SMS mentioning, “Congratulations your mobile number has won 1,000,000.00 pounds from the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 contact Dr Dennis only on e-mail at [email protected].” Believing it to be true, she started correspondence at the given e-mail. “During the process she deposited around Rs. 45 lakh on different dates into different bank accounts including eight ICICI Bank and five SBI accounts for work like customs clearance, getting transfer code, release revenue code and upgrading to secure the prize money,” Ramanamurthy said.However, when the woman realised she was not getting the lottery amount she lodged a complaint with the Cyber Crime police. Based on the complaint, the Cyber Crime police started an investigation with the staff of the Digital Investigation Lab, CID and address of the culprits was identified through mobile numbers from which they contacted the victim, their email IDs and IP addresses. Police arrested the four accused in New Delhi and brought them on transit warrant to Hyderabad. A cash amount of Rs. 35,000 and a gold ring and chain total weight of 35 gm were recovered. Investigation is still on for arrest of another two accused who are absconding.
