In her debut attempt at promoting wildlife, Madhuri Dixit has gone on board the Emeralds for Elephants project as its brand ambassador. “Emeralds for Elephants is a project that is close to my heart as elephants are one of my favorite animals. I have grown up on Kathak. In our dance and performances we pray to Ganesha, recite his stuti, always praising him, I am delighted to be an integral part of this unique opportunity,” she says.Talking about the medium of jewellery for promoting a wildlife cause, Madhuri explains, “Actually that was my first thought as well. But it is great that the opportunity can build awareness on the cause for Asiatic elephants with Gemfields. Who could imagine that a precious green stone would raise precious funds for precious green spaces so that our national heritage animal is secure?” She further adds, “It’s a start definitely. The Asiatic elephants are now seriously under threat. It is very important to raise funds to improve their chances of survival.”Elaborating a little on the designs of the jewellery, she explains, “The jewellery from the ‘Emeralds for Elephants’ collection are exquisitely designed pieces which bear so much resemblance to one of the most majestic creatures in the world. It’s extremely tough for me to decide my favorite as all these jewellery pieces are one of a kind.”As Madhuri has now moved back to India, she says she can now become a more active member in promoting the cause. She says, “My aim is to build awareness on the cause for Asian elephants. I want to reach out to as many people as possible and let them know that our national animal is in grave danger. It will be great if they came forward and help us in this very social cause. I think, every person in this world needs to give back to the nature as we are getting so much from it.”On children and their awareness about animal preservation in the country, she says, “Actually I think kids these days have more knowledge on these issues than we do. They are so well connected to current issues because of the internet.” She also adds, “At my home, we all love animals.”
