KOCHI: Mayor Tony Chammany inaugurated the 30th Cochin Flower Show Exhibition which kick-started here at the Ernakulathappan Ground on Tuesday.One of the biggest in South India, the show is putting up a wide display of flowers. International companies such as Jiffy Plugged, Anthura B V, Bangalore-based company Indo American High Breeds, Krishnendra and Varsha have also put up various flower breeds and plants at the exhibition. The flowers of 25 nurseries across the state are also on display. Seeds and plants are available at a discount.‘Indian Chuvar Chitrangalum Pookalum’ (Indian wall paintings and Flowers) by eminent artists across India, spread across 10,000 square feet is another attraction. Also, pookkalam competitions for adults and children will be held from January 12 to 14. Flower Prince and Princess competitions, organised in association with Lookmans, a model management company, will be held on January 15. There is an entry fee of `15 for children and `30 for adults. The show which is being organised by the District Agri-horticulture society will flaunt at least 15,000 flowering plants. Kerala Books and Publications (KPBS) Vegetable and Fruit Promotion Council, Department of Agriculture, Navy, KERAFED and SHM Kerala also participate in the event. Horticulture Society Vice President S Chandrasenan presided over the function. MLA Hibi Eden, Deputy Mayor B Badhra and Horticulture Society Director K Prathapan were present at the inauguration.
