New Delhi: Reservoirs of 35 dams in Gujarat are full following heavy rains in the past few days.
Heavy rains in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan has resulted in swelling of major rivers like Narmada, Mahi, Sabarmati and Vatrak, official sources said.
A flood alert has been sounded across 120 villages. And 1, 500 people have been evacuated from low-lying areas near the river.
On Monday, water from some dams had been released into the Mahi and Tapi rivers.
Ahmedabad city administration has already started a massive evacuation drive from the low-lying areas of city near Sabarmati River as two lakh cusecs of water is being released from Dharoi dam on the river.
Ahmedabad district collector D Thara has issued a warning to people of villages on the banks of river Sabarmati to move to safer places as the water released from Dharoi dam is likely to reach the villages by midnight.
The administration has also warned people of low-lying areas in Kheda district around Sabarmati River to go to safer places.
The administration has so far evacuated 10,000 people from low-lying areas of Sabarkantha district in north Gujarat.
Heavy rains lashed north Gujarat region on Tuesday with Dhansura area of Banaskantha recording 364 mm of rains in last 12 hours.
Some areas of central Gujarat also received heavy rains in the last 12 hours, official sources said.
