First woman crorepati of KBC had not shared news of victory with her kids
She says that she wanted to keep it a secret and she also confirms that she will be very cautious about spending the winning amount

Homemaker Rahat Taslim (37) from Giredhi Jharkhand is the first woman to win Rs 1 crore in the reality show Kaun Banega Crorepati. She won the prize amount on November 8 and had to keep the good news to herself till the promos of her winning episode were aired just a few days ago.

Rahat says, “I had not even told my children (son – Faisal and daughter – Taseem) that I won the amount of Rs 1 crore.” She adds, “I used my lifeline ‘phone-a-friend’ and Amitabh Bachchan told my brother that I won Rs 50 lakh. So as soon as I reached home they asked me about the game and I had to tell them that I gave the wrong answer and hence I just managed to win Rs 3 lakh 20 thousand. I didn’t share the news of my victory with anybody, except my husband, Imtiaz.”

Rahat confirms that not sharing the news of winning Rs 1 crore was the toughest thing to do. She was asked by the channel Sony that airs KBC to not share the news with everybody. She says, “Also I love surprises. And I wanted to surprise my kids and my relatives and hence chose to say nothing till the promos were aired.”

Rahat has approximately Rs 67 lakhs (post taxation) in her bank account. But she says that she will be extremely cautious about spending this money. “I have struggled a lot. My husband works in Cochin and I live in Jharkhand. He just earns about Rs 8000 and it is very difficult for us to run the family and two houses in this meager amount.” She adds, “I will spend some money on my boutique and the training center that I run and in my kids’ education. I still have not thought what to do with rest of the amount. But I will be extremely careful with the money as I know that I may not get another chance like this,” smiles Rahat.

Rahat has been a science student and has also studied history. She twice prepared for two government examinations. “I worked very hard back then but my husband didn’t let me give the exams as he never wanted a working wife. I got married when I was just 18 years old,” recalls Rahat.

She is eclectic about winning and also very happy that she got a chance to spend so much time with superstar Amitabh Bachchan. “As soon as I saw him on the sets I was in awe of him and was nervous. But he put me at ease and once I was on the hot seat I was quite comfortable. But I still sometimes keep feeling that all this is a dream – winning Rs 1 crore, meeting Amitabh Bachchan and getting so much attention from the media and also from people of the country. I am an aam admi who has suddenly become khaas,” says Rahat.

Rahat got through KBC just after making one phone call to the call centre of the show. And was soon called to Mumbai to play the game.
