New Delhi: The first arrest has been made in the Ruchika Ghirorta molestation case. The Haryana police has arrested, Gajendra Singh, a proclaimed offender, from Pune. According to the police, Gajendra had named Ruchika's brother Ashu Girhotra as an accomplice in car theft cases. The Haryana police has made the arrest to interrogate him on why he took Ashu's name.
The arrest was made on late saturday night. Gajendra will be brought to Panchkula from Pune.
Meanwhile, Haryana Police has been pulled up for delaying action in the Ruchika Girhotra molestation case but police officials say they did not want to arrest the main accused in the case, former top cop S P S Rathore "hastily" despite a Panchkula court having dismissed his anticipatory bail pleas.
Ruchika, a 14-year-old budding tennis player, was molested by former Haryana DGP S P S Rathore in 1990 who had allegedly brought pressure on her school to expel her.
Three years later, Ruchika committed suicide allegedly because of the pressures put by Rathore to her and her family.
Ruchika's friend Aradhna and her (Aradhna's) father, Anand Prakash have been relentlessly fighting a court battle in Chandigarh to bring about justice to Ruchika.
Currently, the accused has been rejected bail pleas and faces imminent arrest.
