BANGALORE: Two days after the death of Baldev Singh, final rites were performed  at the Kalpalli crematorium near Byapanahall..

BANGALORE: Two days after the death of Baldev Singh, final rites were performed  at the Kalpalli crematorium near Byapanahalli on Thursday. Close friends and family, which included staff from HAL and the Indian Air Force (IAF) paid their final respects to Singh. Singh, who at the time of his death was the Director (Corporate Planning and Marketing) at Hindustan Aeronautics Limited committed suicide by hanging himself at Nandi Hills.“He was  a very good man and HAL has lost its greatest test pilot”, Hardeep Singh, a friend and employee of HAL hospital said but refused to comment on the alleged cause for his decision to take his own life.“It was a moment where he lost his mental stability and decide logically,” said Air Vice Marshall (Retd) Lamba. Lamba was the commandant of Aircraft Systems Testing Establishment, when Baldev Singh served there as a test pilot.Lamba also ruled out the chances of “foul play.”  But the surprise came in the absence of Ashok Nayak, the Chairman of HAL. Nayak missed the funeral as on Thursday the interview for the new Chairman of HAL was to be held in New Delhi by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB). R K Tyagi Recommended R K Tyagi, Chairman and MD of Pawan Hans was recommended for the post of HAL Chairman. Ashok Nayak, who is due to retire soon has recommended Tyagi to be his successor. ‘Remembering Baldy’ on Oct 16The Forum of Defence and Aerospace Journalists has condoled the death of Baldev Singh. The Forum said that Baldy’s death is not just a loss to HAL, but to all those who followed military aviation very closely. The Forum has organised a condolence meeting -- Remembering Baldy -- at the Press Club of Bangalore on October 16 at 5 pm.
