HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh recorded exports worth Rs 13,334 crore from 27 functioning Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in the state during 2010-11. This is about 150 per cent more than the exports of Rs 5,554 crore registered during 2009-10. The exports during 2008-09 were Rs 3,021 crore. Other than IT industry, major contributors of the exports are from gem and jewellery, solar semi-conductors, and chemicals and pharma industry.Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, who reviewed the functioning of the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) and SEZs at the Secretariat on Thursday, hailed the corporation for its achievements. Further, the investment attracted in APIIC industrial parks during 2010-11 were to the tune of Rs 36,804 crore and about 92,000 jobs were created. The chief minister wanted the authorities to attract investments worth Rs one lakh crore during this financial year. So far, APIIC has allocated 7,432 acres of lands for setting up of industries and extending incentives and subsidies.Speaking to reporters after the review meeting, mMajor industries minister J Geetha Reddy said that the master plan of the Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemicals Investment Region (PCPIR) is being prepared after taking into account all the environmental, coastal regulatory zone and other issues into consideration. “The London-based LEA Associates South Asia Private Limited will complete the work and submit a report to the government within a year. After receiving the master plan, the government will take up land procurement for the project,” she said.The PCPIR will have an industrial corridor of 140 km between Visakhapatnam and Kakinada abutting the Krishna-Godavari gas basin. The total area is 603 sq km (60,358 hectares) and the processing area is 270 sq km (26,944 hectares). The PCPIR which is being developed jointly by the Central government, the state government and private companies, is expected to attract investments worth Rs four lakh crore. It will have manufacturing facilities for domestic and export-oriented production in petroleum, chemical and petrochemical sectors with associated services and infrastructure.Kiran Kumar Reddy also gave green signal to APIIC for development of core infrastructure in Madhapur, Gachibowli and surrounding areas including development of Gachibowli-Hitech City-Nanakramguda road at a cost of Rs 100 crore. In order to reduce traffic congestion, a plan is being developed for improving connectivity to Hitech City, Gachibowli and surrounding areas.Principal secretary for industries TS Appa Rao, APIIC vice-chairman and managing director BR Meena and other officials attended the meeting.
