HYDERABAD:  As the power situation getting precarious in view of the ongoing Sakala Janula Samme which has entered 19th day on Saturday, the state government has made joint collectors (JCs) as nodal officers to monitor power supply and energy related issues in the nine Telangana districts. Besides, control rooms would be opened at APGenco offices. Steps have been taken to ensure that the standing crops of farmers were least affected due to power interruptions. At present, the power demand stood at around 272 million units (MU) per day, and the AP Discoms were able to meet around 235 MU resulting in a shortfall of about 37 MU per day. The gap is being managed by imposing power cuts to domestic sector during day time, one-day power holiday to industries, one-hour supply restriction to agriculture and unscheduled cuts to all sectors depending on grid frequency.Following directions from chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, chief secretary Pankaj Dwivedi held a review meeting on Saturday on the latest situation in Telangana region. Kiran Kumar Reddy directed Pankaj Dwivedi to ensure that all essential services were not affected.  The chief secretary instructed the officials to take steps to ensure 7-hour power supply to agriculture sector. He also directed the civil supplies officials to ensure timely availability of essential commodities in view of the forthcoming festivals.
