BANGALORE: A day-care rehabilitation centre for the physically and mentallychallenged children, victims of the dreaded pesticide Endosulfan will be inaugurated on Saturday at Kokkada village in Belthangady taluk, Energy Minister Shobha Karandlaje addressed reporters on Thursday.“There are about 375 children in Kokkada village whose parents are daily farm wagers. Their children will be at the day-care from 8 am to 6 pm which will be run by the rural development centre of Sri Dharmasthala Manjunatha Trust,” she added.She said the state has released `25 lakh to Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner out of which `10 lakh will be handed over to Dr Veerendra Heggade to make arrangements to run the centre.“For now, a government building will be used as a make-shift premises. Soon, a new building will be constructed,” the minister added.“The proposed rehabilitation centre is first of its kind.There are instances where the parents have not gone to any functions, including marriages, as they had to be at home to look after the unfortunate children.” “The government is thinking of constructing more such day-care rehabilitation centres,” she added.
