Mumbai: Robbers murdered an elderly woman in her home in south Mumbai in Tuesday evening, police said. This is the third such case this month in the city.
Lajwanti Chugani, a 65-year-old resident of Gamdevi, an affluent locality, was strangled to death by two unidentified robbers who had allegedly followed her to home earlier, Deputy Commissioner Of Police Ramrao Pawar told IANS.
"Chugani, who lived with her domestic help, was followed by the assaulters from a temple till her residence. They then forced their entry into the victim's house and attacked her and a servant," Pawar said.
The woman domestic help was tied and gagged by the assaulters who then strangulated Chugani and robbed the house.
"Investigations are on to ascertain if the servant is also involved in the murder," Pawar added.
Two weeks back, Kiran Khanna, a former member of the film censor board, was found murdered at her south central Worli residence.
On February 15, a senior citizen couple was burnt to death at their residence in western suburb Santa Cruz. The police solved the case and arrested servants of the respective victims.
