Dobrynska first to break 5,000-point barrier
Dobrynska of Ukraine, became the first pentathlete to break the 5,000-point barrier.

Istanbul: Natallia Dobrynska of Ukraine set a new world record in the Pentathlon tallying 5013 points to win the world title on the opening day of the IAAF World Indoor Championships here.

Dobrynska, the 2008 Olympic champion, on Friday became the first pentathlete to break the 5,000-point barrier while eclipsing the previous world record of 4991 points set on Feb 15, 1992 by Russian Irina Belova.

In addition to the first place prize of $40,000, Dobrynska will also receive a $50,000 world record bonus.

Jessica Ennis, the 2010 world champion, finished second with 4,965 points, a national record for Britain and Northern Ireland.

Dobrynska's record-breaking performances:

60m Hurdles: 8.38 sec; High Jump: 1.84m; Shot Put: 16.51m; Long Jump: 6.57m; 800m: 2:11.15.
