Understanding of God The ways to God are as many as the minds of men. God, as I would like to understand, is the penultimate state of divinity that one tries to access on a day-to-day basis through various practices and beliefs.God is that meeting or merging point of the individual into a universality, where everything stands as one. God to me is positive energy that manifests behind all creations.Spiritual beliefs ‘Do your best, and leave the rest’. This universal concept where one makes the effort and then lets go, can be found in many spiritual and religious texts. Lord Krishna tells Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita to concern himself with the action and not to worry about the fruit it bears.A practical application of this ideal allows one to enjoy everything they do, reaping satisfaction from the enjoyment and not from the results produced. This simple yet profound teaching that I picked up during my training at the International Centre for Yoga Education and Research, Puducherry, has helped me through many situations where dejection comes easily through disappointment.Along with this attitude, the discipline of regularity and repetition creates a perfect learning atmosphere for growth in this evolutionary process.Spiritual practices The four-fold awareness as expounded by Swami Gitananda Giri, ‘ awareness of body, emotions, thoughts and awareness of awareness itself, a constant engaging of the presence in the now’, is a practice must for all those who tread upon this razor-edge path of spiritual life. A yoga practice, one which I personally enjoy the most, is the Surya Namaskar, as all its movements synchronised with the breath symbolises the gratitude one feels towards the sun, the source of energy for all life on earth.Pilgrimage sites I had the privilege of visiting Tiruvanamalai, the caves of Ramana Maharishi. Also, I would really like to visit the Amarnath and Badrinath caves in the Himalayas.(Vibha Sana Aejaz conducts yoga classes at Kaya Swadhyaya in Kilpauk)
