HYDERABAD: Justice Raja Elango of the High Court directed the CBI on Thursday to file a counter to the petition filed by V Vijay Sai Reddy, accused number 2 in YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's illegal assets case, pleading for an order to the investigating agency not to exceed its brief by digging into affairs that took place prior to 2004.
Asking Sai Reddy's counsel whether his client had committed any crime before 2004, the judge made it clear that the court would not dictate mode of investigation.Sai Reddy's counsel S Niranjan Reddy sought protection to his client, saying that the investigating agency had been harassing his client in the name of enquiry. The CBI probe on issues prior to 2004 was contrary to the court order that the probe should cover activities from 2004 to 2009. The CBI was digging into issues prior to 2004 without informing the court. It could have approached the court if it wanted to probe past issues, he said.
