Following Delhi's move, Punjab and Haryana have also raised VAT rates on diesel.
New Delhi: Petrol price was on Wednesday hiked by 64 paise a litre, but diesel price was cut by Rs 1.35 per litre in line with trend in global oil rates.
While the rates will be reduced all over the country, petrol price in Delhi will actually go up by 28 paise a litre after considering the Aam Aadmi Party government's decision to hike VAT on the fuel from 20% to 25%.
Following Delhi's move, Punjab and Haryana have also raised VAT rates on diesel.
The Haryana government has raised VAT on diesel from 12.07% to 16.4%. With surcharge, the effective VAT hike on diesel would come to around 17.22%, entailing an increase of nearly Rs 2 per litre of the fuel.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government raised the VAT on diesel from 12.5% to 13.4%.
