New Delhi: A day after Jessica Lall's sister Sabrina Lall made the startling revelation that former Delhi Police joint commissioner Amod Kanth tried to influence the murder probe, Delhi Police has swung into action.
Sabrina alleged on Tuesday that Kanth, who was supervising the probe, suggested that some of the original investigating officers of the case be brought back.
Delhi Police say they will now question Kanth, who's now the DGP of Arunachal Pradesh.
Sabrina alleged that Kanth asked her to request the police commissioner to retain the team which had investigated the case – should a reinvestigation be ordered.
These officers are the ones being questioned for improper investigations in the first place.
Joint commissioner (southern range) at the time of Jessica's murder, Kanth is currently posted as DG, Arunachal Pradesh. He was in Delhi in the first week of March.
"I was completely shocked when Kanth said this to me. How could he say such a thing?” Sabrina said.
At that time, neither had a new FIR been registered in the Jessica case nor a new investigation ordered.
Meanwhile, Delhi Police continued with their investigations and questioned socialite Bina Ramani on Wednesday. Police have also asked model-turned-smalltime Bollwood actor Shayan Munshi to help in the investigation.
Police have also seized the passports of Bina Ramani, her husband George Mailhot and fashion designer daughter Malini on their return from Thailand yesterday, where they had gone to attend a wedding ceremony of their relative, police sources said.
Twenty-fpur people, including some police officers, have been questioned in the case by the special investigation team set up by Police Commissioner K K Paul last month to probe the destruction, tampering and fabrication of evidence in the aftermath of the ramp model's murder.
On April 29, 1999, six senior police officials were present at a party in Tamarind Court where Lall was allegedly shot by Manu Sharma, son of Haryana minister Vinod Sharma.
Ramanis, key witnessses in the case, had allegedly cleaned up the blood stains at the venue after the murder of the ramp model.
A local court had February 21 acquitted prime accused Sharma and eight others, saying the prosecution had failed to prove its case.
