ANGAMALY: The waste dumped in various parts of the town is posing a serious threat to the health of the residents here. The municipal authorities seem to have been ignorant of the huge quantity of waste dumped on roadsides and residential areas. The authorities have reportedly failed to take any step for the removal of the waste from public places. The residents have been put to difficulty with the unbearable garbage stink. Pests and rats are rampant. The people here are scared of spread of epidemic owing to careless dumping of waste in the open. The waste mainly comes from major hotels and auditoriums. The municipal authorities have not taken any action against the hoteliers and managers of wedding halls, who have a major role in polluting the town. Meanwhile, the DYFI Municipal Town Committee has come out strongly protesting the indifferent attitude of the municipal authorities who have not been able to remove the waste and solve the situation in a systematic way. The DYFI committee alleged that it had been long since the waste was removed from the town. The municipal authorities were least bothered about the health of the tax payers and thousands of people who reached the town daily. The DYFI committee secretary T Y Elias demanded that the municipal authorities should take immediate action against the waste dumpers. The acting president of the committee Lebin Jacob said that the waste should be removed on war footing. The DYFI town committee threatened to launch agitation, including the blockade of municipal office.
