CUDDALORE: People in rural areas have been spending their nights in darkness as power supply was totally cut-off throughout the Cuddalore district, following the disruption caused by cyclone Thane. It will take some more days to resume power in rural areas as thousands of electric posts have been flattened.Ironically, most of the ration shops, on which the public depend for kerosene to light lamps, were not opened even two days after the disaster. However, Tasmac shops had opened to sell liquor.Prior to the cyclone, the district administration had informed the media that there was a reserve of 720 tonnes of rice for public supply in case of emergency. But, rations shops in villages on Caper hill had not opened and it irked people.
