THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The timeframe of organisational poll declared by the CPM central committee on Sunday has also set in motion the clock which decides the timetable of group fights in the state unit of the party. From September this year to February next year, grassroot workers of the CPM will be engaged in the serious task of electing the office-bearers of the party from branch to the state committee level.According to the schedule, branch and local committee conferences will begin in September and the state conference will be held in February, 2012. The curious element of this edition of CPM organisational polls is that it will test the claim of CPM leadership that groupism had been eradicated from the state party. In contrast to the Kannur, Malappuram and Kottayam conferences, party leaders hope to elect office-bearers unanimously in all levels this time.“There is only one voice in the party now. VS faction no more exists. Naturally, we will be able to unanimously elect committees  in all levels,’’ said a senior CPM leader. However, electing the leadership unanimously doesn’t mean imposing a committee of the choice of the official faction. “Certain guidelines including those which are part of the rectification document will be the driving force in selecting office-bearers this time,’’ said the leader.Unlike in the past, the state leadership will have to keep vigil to ensure that only true communists are elected to key positions in organisational polls. “If there is a breach of this principle, surely there will be contest,’’ said a leader in the VS camp. Sources in the VS camp indicated that though there is only a remote possibility of grouping together around VS and fighting the election this time, hardliners in the party will take a position to challenge the official faction in accordance with regional issues. That means that in districts like Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Wayanad and Kasargod, there will be stiff opposition to the official faction. “There is no dearth of issues. If V V Ramesan’s NRI seat can be used in Kasargod, issues that led to the change in candidature of Gopi Kottamurikkal can be used in Ernakulam,’’ said the VS group leader.  The idea of a section of leaders to revive the VS group ahead of the party conference is unlikely to materialise as there are not many takers for it. Even after the miraculous show in the Assembly election, the numbers didn’t increase as majority of the hardliners believe that age of VS is a negative factor.
