THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI state secretary C K Chandrappan has stated that the decision to release R Balakrishna Pillai, who has been sentenced to one-year rigorous imprisonment in a corruption case by the Supreme Court, is a total surrender and amounted to political corruption.He said in a statement here on Monday that Balakrishna Pillai and his son Ganesh Kumar were arm-twisting the government taking advantage of the slender majority it had in the Assembly. He alleged that the government had succumbed to the pressure by granting parole to Pillai out of the way by overlooking jail rules and issuing special orders to facilitate his admission in a five-star hospital while undergoing imprisonment. He said by granting remission to Pillai, the rule of law and democratic principles have ben made to crumble down.CPI Legislature Party leader C Divakaran said that the government order was a challenge to the rule of law. He said that a mass protest should be launched against this.
