Madrid: A Spanish court has found John Tomic, the father of Australian tennis player Bernard Tomic, guilty of head-butting his son's former training partner last May.

The court handed John Tomic an eight-month sentence, but he will not have to go to prison since he has no criminal record and the sentence is for less than two years.

The court also issued a restraining order of 500 meters (yards) on John Tomic that he must maintain with Thomas Drouet.

The decision can be appealed.
