Court rejects Dalmiya's plea for time
A city court rejected Dalmiya's request for extension of time in the misappropriation of PILCOM accounts case.

Kolkata: A city court on Friday dismissed an application by former BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya seeking fresh copies of documents and extension of time to reply to the present BCCI management, over allegations of misappropriation of PILCOM funds against him.

Chief Judge P K Sarkar refused to accept Dalmiya's contention that the copies of documents were illegible, observing that BCCI had in an affidavit stated the documents supplied to Dalmiya would not be relied upon in its Disciplinary Committee proceedings against him and as such producing fresh copies were not necessary.

Dalmiya's counsel Gitanath Ganguly had placed the documents supplied to him before the court on August 26 as per the court's order, stating that many of these were illegible.

He prayed for direction to the BCCI management for supplying fresh copies and sought extension of time for replying to the charges.

The BCCI counsels claimed that this was a frivolous application and a ploy to delay the disciplinary proceedings against Dalmiya.

The court on August 22 had directed the BCCI to supply the nearly 2000 documents to Dalmiya, as sought by him, within August 29 for inspection in connection with the PILCOM (Pakistan India Lanka Committee for 1996 World Cup) accounts.

The court directed Dalmiya to complete the inspection and file his reply on the proceedings to the Board by September 9.

The Board would be free to summon him before the Disciplinary Committee after another seven days following September 9, Judge Sarkar had directed.

The Cricket Board had suspended Dalmiya pending inquiry by the disciplinary committee into allegations of financial irregularities against him.
