A local court on Tuesday directed police to file a criminal case against a sitting Congress MLA and his aide in connection with an alleged cheating case. Chief Judicial Magistrate P Paul directed police to register the case against MLA Jaisingh Agarwal and his partner Naresh Verma in connection with the alleged asphalt fake bills scam.

Agarwal, who represents Korba Assembly seat, and Verma are accused of defrauding the exchequer to the tune of Rs 38.28 lakh by preparing fake purchase invoices of coal tar for laying out a road in 2007.

The duo had bid and won the tender floated by the Public Works Department towards construction of the road connecting Patiyapali and Labed villages. The petition was filed by local activist Amaranath Agrawal seeking registration of the criminal case against the duo on the charges of fraud and forgery.

The CJM asked the Station House Officer of Rampur police station to lodge FIR under sections 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will etc) among other relevant sections of the Indian penal Code (IPC) against the MLA and Verma.
