Cops to keep tabs on 7 gangs in old city

HYDERABAD: With the number of anti-social elements on the rise in the Old City, the South Zone police have decided to keep a constant vigil on their activities and take stringent action against them.Addressing newspersons here on Saturday, South Zone DCP Vineet Brijlal said they identified seven gangs which were involved in criminal activities in the Old City.“We will not tolerate criminals,’’ he said.The identified criminal gangs are maintained by Ayub Khan, Faiz, Nazaf Ali, Mohd Javeed Khan alias Jado, Khaiser, Mohd Ilyas, Mota Khaleel and Kala Khaleel.About 546 people possessed arm licences in the South Zone limits. Licences of 535 were checked and show-cause notices issued to 19 for violation of norms.Ten cases were referred to the commissioner of police for cancellation, the DCP said.He said that there were 502 history-sheeters in the Old City limits. Of them, five cases were proposed for externment.Action under PD Act would be takena against 20 others.
