After the Supreme Court’s (SC) warning to the DGPs and the Commissioners of police of all the states and union territories regarding the removal of black films on car windows, the Union Territory traffic police have intensified their drive against vehicles fitted with black films. Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Bhairon Singh Gurjar said that 2,538 vehicles had been booked since the issue of the SC directive almost three months ago.
“Even the government vehicles have not been spared in the latest drive,” said Gurjar and added that the traffic police will remove the black films from all vehicles in the UT within a week or two. Urging the public to co-operate with the police, the SSP said that nearly 5,000 vehicles are suspected to still have the black films on the windows and rear mirrors. Gurjar said that the black films from all the police department vehicles had already been removed.
SP (traffic), N T Sivadasan, said that government vehicles caught violating the directive were fined Rs 100, while the private vehicles were issued notice with the register of a charge-sheet.
