The hunt for Union Minister M K Alagiri’s son Durai Dayanidhi, an accused in the multi-crore granite scam, has now gone online, with police logging on to social networking site Facebook to collect details of his ‘friends’. On Friday, police issued summons to 10 ‘close’ Facebook friends of Durai. All of them, a police source said, have worked for Cloud Nine Movies, a film production house owned by Durai Dayanidhi.
“With the help of one of Durai Dayanidhi’s Facebook friends, we collected the details of his close friends who had been in regular touch with him through social networking sites,” a senior police official detailed.
Durai was apparently active on Facebook till September 25, the day the Madurai Bench of the High Court rejected his anticipatory bail petition. The Union Minister’s son and another accused, Nagarajan, were partners of Olympus Granite. As per the FIR registered against him, Durai has been accused of illegally quarrying on land belonging to the Tamil Nadu Minerals Limited. Meanwhile, special teams have also been sent to Delhi, Chennai, Kodaikanal and Bengaluru to search for Durai. Police have reportedly received information that he could be hiding in his aunt Selvi’s house and a team has been camping in Bengaluru to search for him.
