CHENNAI: Minister for Cooperation K Raju on Monday said that surveillance cameras would be installed in all Tamil Nadu State Apex Cooperative Banks, District Central Cooperative Banks, all branches of Cooperative banks in various cities, at a cost of Rs 3.10 crore.Replying to the discussion on the demands for grants for his department in the State Assembly, the Minister said 100 branches of cooperative banks in various cities would be modernised with air-conditioned facility at a cost of `15 crore. The produce of tribal people – honey, chaamai (little millet) and tamarind would be procured through the Large Sized Multi-Purpose Cooperative Societies (LAMPS) to avoid distress sale and to help them getting profit.These societies provide a single window facility for the provision of production credit, supply of agricultural inputs, marketing of agricultural produce and supply of essential commodities under the public distribution system in tribal areas. The Large Sized Multi-purpose 25 Cooperative Societies have 96,332 tribal members and 17,477 non-tribal members.The Minister said petrol and diesel bunks would be started by the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Marketing Federation Limited at Koyambedu and Kodambakkam respectively. To enable farmers getting profit, the government would procure urad dhall, chillies, onion and pulses.
