BHUBANESWAR: There seems to be no end to the woes of the public as construction of flyovers at major junctions of the city keeps getting delayed. The construction of the flyover at Rasulgarh which started in February 2009 at an estimated cost of Rs. 66.70 crore and was to be completed by February last, is yet to be over. Due to construction, the road on both sides in Rasulgarh has narrowed down resulting in traffic congestion. The construction at Rajmahal Square is creating many problems. The traffic has been redirected. One coming from Sishu Bhavan and Bapuji Nagar has to travel through Unit-I Market and Rajmahal Square as part of the stretch has been blocked. Even travelling on foot has become more difficult. Moreover, construction materials like stone chips and sand lying scattered creating inconvenience to commuters as well as the vehicles. Asked about the reason for the delay in the construction, a senior engineer of the department said Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation’s inability to clear the construction site on time caused delay. There were light posts and BMC vending zones had to be cleared. However, Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena said to clear vending zones they had to seek clearance from the High Court and this caused delay. The PWD has projected that the construction should be completed by March 2012.
