KOCHI: In an effort to reach out to the aged customers, the BSNL is introducing a new facility - a Fixed Wireless Phone (FWP). The device has all major facilities of both mobile phone and fixed phone. Though the device looks like a land phone, it can be used as a wireless connection. While a customer purchases the fixed phone at   Rs 1,450 he can make free calls for Rs150 per month; thus total free calls for Rs1,800 per year. The device functions using the GSM technology. Once it is topped up for Rs 55, the customer will get validity for 45 days and a talk time for Rs 50. All existing facilities and systems of existing mobile top up, its validity and talk time will be applicable to FWP as well. Besides a customer can make calls at 30 paise a second to two BSNL numbers within the state. The facility will be beneficial to elderly customers who are not able to use mobile phones, said BSNL Ernakulam SSA Principal General Manager P T Mathew. The service will be available at the customer service centres of BSNL, he said. High Speed Internet Data Cards With more and more telecom service providers coming up offering internet facilities, BSNL has come up with high-speed  Internet Evdo Data cards. The High Speed EVDO Data cards are available with unlimited plan of `750 with a band width up to 3.1 Mbps. The cards can be used across the country. The data cards are available at BSNL Bhavan Catholic Centre Building, Ernakulam CTO Panampilly Nagar and Customer Service Centres at Aluva, Kalamassery, Palarivattom, Thrikkakara, Vyttila, Tripunithura, Palluruthy, Mattanchery, Angamaly and Muvattupuzha.
