BANGALORE: Congress which has fielded its candidate for Thursday’s byelection is confident of putting up a tight fight against the BJP candidate, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda.Speaking to media, CLP leader Sidharamaiah said that all the Congress legislators would participate in the byelections and cast votes in favor of the party’s nominee, Anand Gaddadevaramath.Exuding confidence that all the secular forces including the JD(S) and eight independents would support the Congress candidate, Sidharamaiah said that they appealled to both the JD(S) and independents to support their candidate.“Our party leaders have constant touch with the seven independents, including Sriramulu who has promised to support Congress,” he said. Prior to the CLP, Congress leaders including AICC general secretary and Karnataka party affairs in-charge Madhusudan Mistry, held a day-long meeting with the party legislators and others.Congress has a strength of 71 in the 225-member Karantaka Assembly, and requires 113 votes to sail through.
