KANNUR: The Congress leadership is striving hard to find a settlement to the continuing row in the District Congress Committee here following the directives of the party high command, going by the indications available. The Congress leadership is expected to evolve a formula to resolve the issue before October 2, according to party sources. The factional fight in the DCC took a turn for the worse with a group of supporters of K Sudhakaran MP preventing DCC president P Ramakrishnan from entering the office a couple of weeks ago. P Ramakrishnan had raised several allegations of misappropriation of party funds against K Sudhakaran and the KPCC had appointed a one-man commission to look into the allegations. The row turned further worse when Sudhakaran announced that he would resign as member of Parliament representing the Kannur constituency if the allegations were proved true.Sudhakaran had stated that he wanted the KPCC to hold a detailed inquiry into the allegations of embezzlement of funds raised against him by the DCC president. The group led by him had also issued an ultimatum stating that they would go ahead with the demand to oust Ramakrishnan from the post of DCC president in the coming days. The group had earlier decided to keep away from the prayer meeting planned to be held by the DCC on October 2. They have now changed the decision following the intervention of the KPCC leadership. A special convention proposed to be organised by the I-group was also put off in the wake of the directives issued by the KPCC leadership. Expressing satisfaction over the decision, P Ramakrishnan said that “it is a welcome development.” He said that he would continue as president of the Kannur DCC as long as he was asked to do so by the Congress leadership.According to available information, the KPCC leadership is planning to replace some of the DCC presidents in the state as part of the measures being taken to reorganise the party, and Ramakrishnan would be asked to step down as president. The party leadership hopes to settle the issue by giving another placement to Ramakrishnan.
