New Delhi: Jaideep Ahlawat's performance in 'Gangs of Wasseypur' and 'Vishwaroop' was received well and now he is ready to play a typical Bollywood baddie with the unusual screen name of AK74 in director Dilip Ghosh's 'Commando - A One Man Army'. He talks about his interpretation of a villain and relationship with co-stars.
Q: Is AK74 an out and out villain like we see in most of the Hindi action films?
A: Well, I am playing the bad man called AK74 and tried to play it with all the goodness. AK74 is very interesting in a way that he is a cocktail of different impulses and behaviour in a very unpredictable manner. The audience will find very surprising behaviour at times from him.
Q: Why are you called AK74 in the film?
A: Simple reason that it's abbreviation for his name and birth year and you are going to find the reason and full form in the film.(Laughs)
Q: The promos of 'Commando' suggest that your character is almost like the second hero of the film. How did you manage to bring out its negative side then?
A: The modern negative characters in new age cinema have a tendency to be called almost as the second hero of the film because they are so enigmatic and surprising and as far as the question of depicting the negativity of the character it was there in the writing and at the same time, I had to make certain adjustments and mental preparation for the same. That's the beauty of AK74. It develops and flourishes in front of your eyes.
Q: 'Gangs of Wasseypur' and 'Vishwaroopam' have given you a solid footing in the industry. How are you planning to utilise it now?
A: Well, definitely these films have given me a platform in Indian Cinema where I can stand up at least for myself. After these films I have been reading meaningful scripts of different flavours. I am ready to challenge myself as an actor in different genres and evolve as an actor in the process.
Q: What are your expectations from 'Commando'?
A: (Laughs) All kinds I think. On a serious note, Mr Vipul Shah has made this film and nurtured me as an actor by giving me space and a free licence to express and experiment. Though the film has enjoyed the adjective of being called an action film, I totally believe that the film will work on all the fronts like plot, cinematography, music etc. Believe me it's a film to believe in.
Q: You must be working on some other projects as well.
A: I am starting 'Vishwaroop 2' with Dr Kamal Hassan very soon. Other than that two more untitled films are finalised.
'Commando - A One Man Army' has Vidyut Jamwal and Pooja Chopra in the lead roles. The film is set to be released on April 12, 2013.####
