The State Government will soon release `26,000 crore earmarked for the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to extend the project up to Kengeri as part of Phase II work.

 Speaking after inaugurating various development projects at Kengeri here on Tuesday, CM Jagadish Shettar said the government has reserved Rs 630 crore to set up markets on the lines of the KR Market in other areas of the city like Jayanagar, KR Puram and Malleswaram.

 The residents of Kengeri will soon receive Cauvery water, he added.

 He said the government has now stepped up giving special grants exclusively for development works across the city.

 “Earlier, only the Karnataka State Finance Corporation was granting the funds, but now special grants is being released to take up development works in various parts of the city,” Shettar said.

 He also inaugurated grade separators built at the Kengeri-Satellite Junction.

 The existing Primary Health Centre has been demolished to make way for a hospital which will have a facility with 30 beds.

 Rainwater harvesting facilities were launched at the Hemmigepura Ward, Vijayashree Colony and Doddabidarakallu, Hosahalli, Gollarapalya and Vadiganadoddi.

 Pointing out that Yeshwantpur Assembly constituency is still backward, Energy Minister Shobha Karandlaje said many wards in the constituency do not have roads and street lights.

 “The people are facing severe water scarcity.

 Many stay in houses built on revenue sites and both the BBMP and BWSSB have to do lot of works here,” she said.
