HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad will be dotted with as many as 558 modern bus shelters soon. These bus shelters, officials say, would have modern, aesthetic, sleek, commuter and environmental-friendly looks. They will have comfortable seating with proper illumination besides a provision for allowing electronic streaming of bus timings and routes. The bus shelters for city buses operated by the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) would be built under the Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials told City Express that they had invited agencies, individual firms, joint ventures and consortiums to submit bids before February 4. The bus shelter project has been divided into five packages that include Package-1 (110),  Package-2 (110),  Package-3 (110),  Package-4 (110) and Package-1 (118).  The cost for constructing one bus shelters is likely to be around `2.5 lakh to  `3 lakh.Already, 450 to 500 bus shelters have been built in the last few years by three private agencies for a licence period of 10 years. Some of the agencies were taken to task for building shelters at sites away from the actual bus stops for advertisement purposes. All necessary measures are being taken to ensure that the bus shelters are built at the given sites after bitter experiences of the past. A few proposed bus shelters may face site problems at these places. The shelters will be constructed as per the approved design of GHMC at the locations proposed by the GHMC and should be completed within 44 weeks. The bidder should have to pay to GHMC, out of its revenue from advertisements, a sum per bus shelter per month as may be quoted by the bidder in the commercial offer. This revenue share is the bid parameter for selection of the bidder. The bidding for the project would be in single submission comprising two stages. First stage would be for pre-qualification of bidders based on eligibility criteria and evaluation of technical parameters of the bidders based on their bids containing the details of construction, operation and maintenance of the bus shelters. The second stage would be evaluation of financial bids of pre-qualified and technically qualified bidders only.
